We Think You’ll Love the Newest Member of Our Green City Team, Hygienist Wendy
In last month’s post – on Guided Biofilm Therapy – we only name-dropped the hygienist who recently joined our team. Now that Wendy has settled in and even met some of you already, we thought we’d take this opportunity to give her a proper introduction.
Because honestly? She’s someone worth knowing!
Wendy grew up in Southern California, just minutes from Disneyland. Four years ago, she moved up here to the Pacific Northwest, where she stepped into the dental field, working as a periodontal assistant as she completed her prerequisites in dental hygiene.
Before dentistry, Wendy studied psychology and human services. You can feel that background immediately in her interactions with others. As she puts it,
My approach to care is centered on compassion, understanding, and education. I believe in meeting each person where they are — emotionally and physically — and working together to make dentistry a comfortable experience.
Wendy holds an associate’s degree in psychology and a bachelor’s in dental hygiene. She’s active in both the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the Western Society of Periodontology. She’s also working toward IAOMT accreditation as a biological hygienist and dreaming up her own hygiene-focused study club.
Before entering the dental field, Wendy spent several years as a veterinary assistant and developed a deep love for animals. She continues to volunteer with a nonprofit that offers free and low-cost services to pet parents and shares her home with a French Bulldog Tigger. Wendy also volunteers with organizations that provide free or lower-cost dental care to underserved communities.
One thing Wendy told us not long after she started working here was that joining our practice had helped everything make sense. Hygiene school hadn’t covered biological dentistry, and she had always felt as though something was missing.
It’s been so rewarding learning about biological dentistry and finally connecting the dots to many of the questions I had throughout hygiene school.
That natural curiosity — and that relief from finding a philosophy so perfectly aligned from what she’d sensed all along – is one reason why she fits in so naturally here.
As a hygienist, Wendy is passionate about whole-body health, gentle care, and empowering patients with information and knowledge so they can make the most informed choices possible for their mouth/body health. “My goal,” she says,
is to create personalized care plans that not only address oral health but also support overall wellness, since the mouth is closely connected to the body’s total health.
We’ve been so grateful to welcome someone into our growing hygiene department who not only has the necessary clinical training but the heart, presence, and curiosity to support that growth. Though she’s only been with us since September, Wendy already feels like family.
And she’s also looking forward to meeting you at your next office visit – for a checkup and hygiene, or other dental procedures. We think you’ll admire and enjoy both her
blend of technical skill and compassion, and the genuine calming presence to the treatment room.
Either way — if you’re in the office, stop by and say hi. We’re pretty sure you’ll like her as much as we do.
