The kind of food you eat matters. And so does the quality of that food.
Research continues to show that, on the whole, organic food tends to have more of the nutrients especially needed for optimal health, including Omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. They also carry fewer synthetic pesticide residues.
Even better is organic that is local, raised sustainably, and eaten in season. This handy online tool will help you learn what’s in season when.
As for animal products, Dr. Taylor is a huge supporter of raw dairy from pastured, organic, and humane animals. “I only like supporting local farmers who treat their animals with respect,” she says, “who slaughter humanely and are environmentally conscious and sustainable.”
Here are some of the local sources we recommend:
- Sea Breeze Farm – a great source for raw dairy and humanely raised and slaughtered grass-fed and forest-ranged meats
- Nash’s Organic Produce
- PCC Natural Markets (and other co-ops!)
